Padre Pio Academy News for September 6, 2020

Try to remember the days of September” because, busy as we are, they won’t be around very long!  The first day of school at Padre Pio Academy is this Wednesday, September 9th at 8:15AM – all students will be in uniform; it will be a half-day as will the Thursday and Friday following.  When school is dismissed on these days, parents MUST be here promptly to collect their children or make alternative arrangements to do so, since there will be no supervision after dismissal.  The normal full-day schedule resumes Monday, September 14th.  In anticipation of the school year, we remind parents, their children must have a neatly trimmed, untinted hairstyle, boys as well as girls.  Boys’ hair must be off-the-collar – the Covid Curls must go!!!  Girls – no make-up, minimal jewelry.
The Parent Meeting in Father Schell Hall on Thursday, September 10th at 7:00PM is mandatory.  Parents will receive a professionally designed folder outlining their obligations and our unique special events and fundraisers, as a keepsake.  If parents have a Junior High student (7th or 8th grade), they will first meet at 6:15PM with our teacher, Miss Cassie Condon, in Classroom 4.  Miss Condon would like to meet her student’s parents personally to provide a quick overview of the requirements and expectations the children will encounter.  Since our Junior High students are expected to operate at a higher level of independence and creativity than grammar school, the parents will better understand the focus of assignments and projects so everyone gets off on the right foot. Afterwards, everybody will adjourn to the Hall to join the other parents.
The occasional Padre Pio Yardsale has morphed!  This time around it will be the first ever, Padre Pio Academy Soft Goods/Clothing Drive!  No toys, no tools, no books, no kitchenware, hardware or flatware!!!  What you do is clean out your linen closets, clothes closets and dressers of used items that you just can’t part with because, well, you know, you’ll eventually lose that 35 pounds.  Right?  We’re looking for clothing, sheets, towels, shoes (“holes” okay) and similar accessories; “software” in a manner of speaking.  Just toss the discards into a trash bag please, and drop it off in the Hall anytime from Sunday, September 27 through Friday, October 2.  Please note, we are NOT having a yardsale!  Instead, we’re taking the goods collected to a local thriftstore, which pays us by the pound for the goods we present.  This is a trial run and it will be great to reap some profits for a minimum of labor for a change.  All proceeds, as usual go toward the students’ Pilgrimage Fund.  Now if you really have your heart set on a real, live “yardsale”, don’t worry, it’ll come!!!  Stay tuned.
The Annual Padre Pio Academy $10,000 Raffle is closer than when you first believed!  Tickets go on sale next Sunday, September 13, in the breezeway after all Masses.  This is the drive (in conjunction with Oktoberfest) which typically provides the boost to get us “over the top” financially.  With Oktoberfest on hold, the $10,000 Raffle is the biggie!  Only 250 tickets are available at $100 each.  Buy your own or go in with a buddy!!!  Please?
