Padre Pio Academy News for November 3, 2019
OKTOBERFEST 2019!!! Is there anyone who didn’t enjoy the best afternoon of their lives last Sunday? YES! Those who failed to come to our humble Oktoberfest celebration! The biggest drum roll of the afternoon was undoubtedly the awarding of $10,000 Raffle prize money. If you’re wondering whether or not you won, ahhh, you didn’t. But John Healy won – $1000; and Atila Guimaraes won – $2000; and Leon Schaper won – $7000! Certainly we want to offer our heartiest congratulations to the winners and our most heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us in this endeavor. Before Oktoberfest memories turn into Thanksgiving, we have to thank Jennifer Martin who was Chairman of the event – she is the one who pulled it all together! Also there were her co-chairs – Monika Bauer, Advertising; Meghan (the Answer Lady) Codipilly, Silent Auction; Melanie Crostic, Ticket Sales; Rachael Diehl, Food; Ally Lewis, more Food; Crystal Lewis, Games!!! And a very special thank you to our Vietnamese parishioners and Mr. and Mrs. Tran for organizing the Vietnamese Food booth! And thanks to everyone who had a part in this! If you would like to see what you did at Oktoberfest that you forgot about, see the photos on the bulletin board immediately facing as you leave the Chapel today!
Know a Veteran? Or maybe you ARE a Veteran? Please submit your name or names (living or deceased) so Padre Pio students may honor your Vet’s service on Veterans Day, with a patriotic display in the breezeway much like last year’s! Now, we would appreciate having your names by Thursday, November 7 at the latest, because on November 8 we will welcome a guest speaker, Active Duty Gunnery Sergeant USMC, to Father Schell Hall from 11:00 – 11:30AM. Topics will include character, leadership and discipline as well as Gunny’s personal experience and his job in the military. Everyone is invited to attend! Submit Veteran names to firstname.lastname@example.org or drop them off in the office. We want to hear from our Vets!!!
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception will fall on Sunday this year, and it’s no secret, our fellow parishioners from St. Patrick’s Mission in Northridge are suckers for a get-together! So, on December 8, they are throwing a parish-wide potluck, and YOU are invited! Here’s the scoop – things get underway after Mass, about 11:00AM with tea, water, select coffees and condiments provided, as well as paper plates, cutlery and cups. Attendees must provide other beverages (beer/wine ok!) and, rule of thumb, food enough for your own “unit” plus 5. This gives everyone a chance to sample everyone else’s and maybe (just maybe!) go back for seconds!!! Available are, kitchen outlets, fridge, freezer, oven for warming, BUT: stovetop is verboten! If “food” doesn’t draw OLHC folks, this will – there will be a 50/50 raffle to help cover expenses; voluntary donations are appreciated as well. Grab a flyer and mark the date on your calendar!!!
Pizza Pizza!!! ‘Member that great free pizza party the students had in the spring? They’re getting hungry again . Next time you buy a Little Caesars, save that Proof-of-Purchase tab on the box and drop it off in the PPA copy room. Ave Caesar!!!
