Padre Pio Academy News for August 30, 2020

On September 9, Padre Pio Academy initiates its 38th year of
excellence in Catholic education! Following are courtesy reminders to
parents, which ought also serve as an introduction to our procedures, for
the parent with school-aged children within the next year or so: There will be
a mandatory Parent Meeting on Thursday, September 10, at 7:00PM in
Father Schell Hall. This meeting will delineate what is expected of you and
your student(s) throughout the course of the year, both academically and with
regard to special fund-raising events. Should you have any questions, this is
the time Junior High parents (7th and 8th Grades) will observe an earlier
schedule, meeting with the teacher, Miss Cassie Condon, in Classroom #4 at
6:15PM. Miss Condon wants to meet you personally and speak briefly about
the expectations and requirements your students will encounter in her
classes. Since Junior High is expected to perform at a more independent
level than grammar school, this meeting should help tremendously so you
are aware of their projects and assignments enabling them to get off on the
right foot. When this meeting is over, you will join the other parents in the Hall
for the general meeting at 7:00PM.
We see new faces at Holy Mass every week and certainly want to
welcome each and every one! With that, here’s some valuable
information for the newcomer, and a worthwhile reminder to regular
parishioners. We take seriously the blessings of the Promises of the
Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque at Paray-le-Monial regarding
the practice of First Fridays, and similarly, those of Our Blessed Mother to
Sister Lucia in 1925 with regard to First Saturdays. In order to make First
Friday and First Saturday come together devotionally as a cohesive
whole, we have 24 hour Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament which
begins immediately following the First Friday Mass, lasting throughout the
day and night hours, finally ending prior to the Mass of First Saturday.
Since Our Lord cannot be exposed without adorers, the challenge is to
find enough people who will dedicate at least an hour of their day or night,
and this on a regular monthly basis, so that someone is present in the
Chapel with Our Lord at all times. The “Firsts” for September are this
coming Friday and Saturday, September 4 and 5, and we have a time slot
which MUST be covered. If you or your family are available for First
Fridays 11:00AM – Noon, we need you! Please see the sign-up sheet on
the Gift Shop counter if you think you can work this hour into your
schedule. If there’s another hour you would like to sign-up for, please do
so since we need multiple adorers just for the sake of back-up.
The Padre Pio Academy $10,000 Raffle is right on schedule, with first
sales on Sunday, September 13, after all Masses! Purchase of a $100
ticket puts you in the running for $1000, $2000 or possibly $7000!!! There
are only 250 tickets available – grab one while you can! Oktoberfest has
been postponed until March because we  hear everyone has the Wuhan
flu and won’t recover until November 4th.
