Padre Pio Academy News for August 23, 2020
Celebrating 38 Years of Catholic Tradition in Education
Ah, summer’s end. Always a bittersweet reflection. But there will be little time for introspection with the very busy days ahead at Padre Pio Academy. First off, a tip of the hat and hearty Thank YOU to all the parents able to spend a couple hours yesterday for the annual autumn “spring cleaning” of the classrooms. They look marvelous! After everyone left we did a white glove inspection, and guess what? Still white!!!
Wednesday, September 9 marks the beginning of the 2020-2021 Academic Year at Padre Pio. That day, and Thursday and Friday following, are half days. Parents must be here to collect their children when school is dismissed or make other arrangements for their pick-up. There will be NO supervision after dismissal!!! The next Monday, September 14, the Academy resumes the usual* full day schedule. It’s no secret, we’ve certainly had a bummer summer – this closed, that closed, go out to dinner and eat on a curb, children climbing the walls, mom too! Maybe the young ‘uns got a little free with the hair tint – that sort of thing. If that’s the case, the free spirits must be tamed and returned to their natural state before September 9th. Boys will sport an off-the-collar haircut; girls, their natural color. Jewelry – minimal. Make-up – absent. A smile and respectful attitude – mandatory!
“WHAT???!!!” Good question! Ask your governor… The Presidential Election is November 3rd. It’s likely the Chinese Virus will have worn out its usefulness by November 4th. Until then, we still labor under the shadow of darkness and officials with an agenda. Sadly, it seemed in everyone’s best interest that we postpone Oktoberfest for the time being; we’d hate to be ca*ught enjoying ourselves! This was a hard decision, particularly because PPA really depends on the Oktoberfest income to put us “over the hump” financially. Right now, it seems we’re looking at a “March-toberfest” with all the usual family fun, food, games, food, festivities and, uhh… FOOD! that we’ve come to enjoy. What has NOT changed however, is the Autumn $10,000 Raffle. This is good news since it will provide PPA with funds which will, hopefully, tide us over until the March-toberfest. A word of explanation to so many new parishioners- (But first, if you and your family recently began attending Holy Mass here, we want to wish you a very warm welcome to the OLHC – PPA family; and want to invite you to join us in the occasional parish get-togethers we have throughout the year!) The $10,000 Raffle is an annual event whereby, you purchase one, two or a multitude of the
250 tickets available, for only $100 apiece. Your stub will join the others in the rotating cage and three will be drawn. First Prize wins $7000; Second Prize $2000 and Third Prize $1000. Imagine that! The losing ticket gets $1000!!! Yes, we do things right here! Raffle Tickets go on sale Sunday, September 13, with the beeeg drawing, Sunday, November 1st at 9:00AM.
There’s no official “PPA Giving Tree” this year; everyone’s watching their wallet. But should you see any super BOGO deals fit for students while you’re shopping, we’ll put them to good use!!!
